Julia & Cameron's Wedding
Bride, Julia and Groom, Cameron wanted an elegant summer garden party wedding for their August wedding. They chose the Walled Garden at Strathtyrum near St Andrews as they met whilst studying at St Andrews University. The three acre walled garden created the perfect setting for their marquee wedding reception.
Having catered for Julia’s sister’s wedding earlier in the year it was essential that we created a menu that had an entirely different look and feel. As Cameron is in the army and their guest list was made up of hearty appetites the couple decided on a selection of sharing platters for starters. There were three different sharing boards which included sensational charcuterie - fennel salami, Parma ham, Milano salami - Manchego cheese, olives and pickled vegetables; hot smoked salmon, gin cured salmon, cold smoked salmon,soused mackerel, pickled shallots and lemon slices; pesto, hummus, flat breads, stuffed peppers, courgette & aubergine involtini and pickled vegetables.
As a prelude to the sharing starters, there were some of Appetite’s famous canapés for guests to enjoy. These included, haggis bon bons with ‘chip shop’ sauce; beef carpaccio with garlic crouton, semi dried tomato, black pepper and roast shallot mayonnaise; cured stonebass with pomegranate, samphire, buttermilk dressing on a squid ink cracker, summer garden vegetables with sauce gribiche and olive soil; fresh tomato salsa in a manchego tortilla cup and coriander cress.
The couple were adamant they wanted to play around with the idea of serving their guests ‘pie and mash’. We came up with a simple, yet elegant, braised Scottish beef shin and puff pastry pie served with colcannon mash and baby vegetables. It was an absolute winner.
The accompanying jugs of gravy were such a hit that guests were drinking gravy directly from their wine glasses!
The vegetarians were not overlooked and enjoyed a rather tasty roast butternut squash, feta and harrisa pie with spicy lentils.
The team at Appetite were a delight to work with from the start and we were thrilled we chose them to be such a key part of our wedding. Philly is fantastic, especially her talent for turning ideas we thought couldn't work into reality. In the run up to the wedding one of our favourite memories is our tasting at Appetite - getting to try all the things we had talked about for so long. At our wedding, the Appetite team were wonderful and so many of our friends and family commented on how much they enjoyed to food. They also took special care to make sure Cameron and I had a chance to eat as well with a plate of canapés waiting for each of us at the reception for which we were extremely grateful!

The Eton ‘Tidy’, a quintessential summer dessert to finish worked beautifully with the balance of the menu and complimented the surroundings. The milk bottles of strawberry soup added extra sweetness and looked lovely set out on the long dining tables.
We’re sure you’ll agree this was a fantastic feast to cater to every guest’s taste whether a meat lover or a vegetarian.
Added extras included a pot of honey and honey dipper - a gift from the groom’s parents who keep bees. There were also wheel barrows of beer on the lawn for guests to help themselves to and garden games were scattered around which the guests really enjoyed getting stuck into and having fun. In the evening the gardens were transformed by extra magical lighting.
