Barnbougle Castle

Barnbougle Castle

One of Scotland’s hidden treasures, closed for 90 years, the castle has been woken from its slumber and re-furbished to 5 star standard.

Barnbougle Castle is a luxury Castle Venue, with versatile and inspiring rooms, ranging from the stately and magnificent to the intimate and secluded, from the glorious sixty foot long Banqueting Hall has a Minstrel’s Gallery and breath-taking views. The grand Scottish Library has thousands of books and open access onto the sea-facing terraces and private beaches. The Castle is situated in truely unique location, on the banks of the Firth of Forth.

The original Castle building was built in the 13th century to protect the Moubray family from their enemies, during this time it became a base for piracy and smuggling.
In 1881 Barnbougle was rebuilt by the Victorian Prime Minister, the 5th Earl of Rosebery, as a retreat for study and contemplation. The Castle became a vast study-tower, with six libraries and a single bedroom.
When the Earl died in 1929, the castle was closed and maintained by the family until the summer of 2019 when it was opened as an exclusive use venue.

The Castle is hired on an exclusive use basis, the perfect location for any event, from Gala Dinners, Weddings, and Corporate Meetings and Conferences, guests will also have access to the Castles private gardens and very own beach.
